Daily Wedding Inspiration: Modern meets Vintage invitation Suite

Vintage florals juxtaposed with a modern flower pattern make this wedding invitation suite from NZ design studio Ruby & Willow utterly enchanting.
Unexpectedly, the flowers are monochrome, so elegant against the pops of yellow in the border, envelope and text.

Just the invitation design to add a timeless touch to an otherwise modern wedding day.

I am absolutely smitten with the whimsical design of this invitation suite by Invite With Style. The colourful design is stylish with a playful feel and just a hint of Moroccan flavour.

We Amour: Alicia of Akimbo Design

Today we chat to the talented Alicia Parsons, the designer behind Adelaide design company Akimbo and creator of the awesome e-book ‘How to get kick ass wedding stationery‘.

What inspired you to create this guide for couples?
I get a lot of questions from brides who are inspired by all the amazing stationery they see in wedding magazines and blogs but they have no idea how to go about getting something similar. Many of them are intimidated by the technical jargon and are worried about asking what they feel are silly questions. I wanted to take out the scary factor and give couples the information they need to confidently make decisions about their wedding stationery.

What did your own wedding invitations look like and what was the inspiration?

I got married last year at The State Library of South Australia, a beautiful building with 19th century architectural details. When designing our invitations, I was inspired by the typography of Victorian advertising posters, the literary aspect of our venue and the nearby street lamps.

What do you love about designing wedding invitations?
I’ve always loved graphic design, but only more recently discovered my passion for invitation design specifically. I love taking someone’s vision for their wedding day and translating it into beautiful invitations and knowing it will put a smile on the faces of their guests when they receive it.

How would you describe your style?
I don’t have a certain aesthetic so much as a common approach. When designing a job, I start with the idea and then work out the best way to show that visually, rather than having a set style. I pride myself on quirky concepts that are well-designed and produced with high-quality materials.

What are a couple of the big wedding stationery trends you foresee for 2011 & 2012?
We can expect to see the continued resurgence of letterpress printed invitations. I also think stationery featuring unusual materials and hand-lettering will become popular.

Daily Wedding Inspiration: Romantic bilingual invitation

I love the old-world, romantic feel of this wedding invitation suite, designed by Jeremy & Kathleen. Understated and thoughtful, the invitation is bi-lingual, a nod to the couple’s lifestyle of splitting their time between England and Brazil.
If you and your fiancee have different first languages, a bi-lingual invitation is a beautiful, special way of incorporating both your cultures as well as making both families feel welcomed and involved.

* I highly recommend a visit to their blog! Jeremy and Kathleen sounds like a super sweet, romantic couple, as evidenced by them describing Jeremy as the ‘left-brain to Kathleen’s right” Cute!

Ben & Gemma’s wedding stationery perfectly reflected their wedding day and provided guests with a little sneak peek of the day ahead.
With the wedding reception location set on a private property in green hinterlands, Ben & Gemma drew on the natural surroundings to theme their wedding.

The invitations drew inspiration from the rollings hills at the wedding venue and the perfect pair – the bride & groom.
